Took a more sombre route with this one. I'm still trying to figure out where I've heard it recently (no points for anyone who suggests 'radio'), but I recognised it straight away, being a big fan of the original. For those of an uneducated nature, today's TOTD is a cover of a track from a man by the name of Justin Vernon, better known as the frontman of American indie/folk band, Bon Iver. I must admit, with regards to the artist who covers it, I know very little about her, other than the fact that her real name is Jasmine Van den Bogaerde and that she goes by the stage name of Birdy. But I suppose the beautiful thing about music is that you don't need to know anything about it... all you have to do is listen. She definitely does the original justice and hopefully the attention she's gathered from this cover will give her a foot onto the extremely long and treacherous ladder that is the music industry. So, without further ado, here's your track of the day:

This one has been rattling around in my head for the last few days. NME have pinned the band as one of the next big things, but we all know there's a long way from having NME spot your potential and actually living up to the, generally unnecessary, hype that they've billed you with. From the glitz and glamour that is Slough, these young chaps have definitely made a good impression on yours truly, and I'm hoping they do the same for you. Although I think dubbing them the next Oasis/Blur is nothing short of ridiculous, not to mention extremely premature, I'm a sucker for anyone who is making music the proper way, with instruments and elbow-grease, as apposed to succumbing to the generation of computer/factory-made garbage that is polluting the charts more vigourously than the BP oil spill did to the Gulf of Mexico. The Indie/Rock scene is slowly but surely dying, so the recruitment process for the new wave that critics are calling 'GritPop' is very much open to negotiation; and although these boys may not be the Che Guevara-esque leaders that we're looking for, they're definitely allies that I would welcome aboard the revolution with open arms. So, without further ado, here's your TOTD:

In the wake of it's recent sampling on Wretch32's track 'Unorthodox', I thought I'd revisit the original track which effectively gave birth to the rappers second single, which peaked at number 2 in the Official UK charts last week. 'Unorthodox' samples a track by The Stone Roses, one which happens to be their most commercially successful track to date. It was originally intended to be the B-side to their single 'What the World is Waiting For', but the band were pressured by their label's A&R man, Roddy McKenna, to make this track the A-side. Despite their best efforts, and their dissatisfaction with the label's interference, the 'Roses were forced into compromising, making the single a double A-side. This would later lead to a partial boycotting of the track during some of their live performances. Well, now that you've had a nice bit of background information there, I'm sure you're mentally prepared for it. So without further ado, here's today's TOTD:

Alcohol genuinely prohibits me from doing work-related tasks. TOTD #7 is a number from Alex Metric and Steve Angello, with a bit of help from the Godlike Genius that is Ian Brown. Pushed this on my Facebook page the other day and I think it's fitting that I should do the same here. So without further ado, I give you yesterday's TOTD:
Today's Track of the Day is a song from a band which I've never really gotten round to checking out, but I've heard a lot of good things about them. The track I've stumbled across was also recently one of Zane Lowe's 'Hottest Records in the World', so I think my approach work is certainly justified. If this one's anything to go by, then consider me doing my homework on these chaps. So without further ado, here's today's TOTD:

A treat for you today, as there's two TOTD's, courtesy of the Royal Wedding hysteria that took over everyone's lives yesterday. First up is a track from Adele's first album '19'. The significance of the track relates to a change that occurred yesterday while this song was on. Despite my best efforts, I managed to succumbe to the powers of royalty and found myself engrossed in the live wedding of Will and Kate. Yes, I'm a hypocrite, what are you gonna do about it? Anyway, we were having a good ol' fashioned street party and the weather wasn't the best to say the least. To cut a long story short, someone's iPod dock was on shuffle in the middle of a bunch of tables and just as this song came on, the sun decided to finally wrestle it's way through the clouds and, quite literally, brighten up our day. It was definitely one of those cheesy moments, fitting for a cheesy party. So, for the first of two times today, without any further ado, here's yesterday's TOTD:
Following closely after it, today's TOTD comes courtesy of Radio 1 DJ, Huw Stephens. I was on my lunch break today, whilst taking part in a rare spell of work, and I was eating my Italian BMT from Subway in the car, with the radio on. Mr. Stephens pitched this one up and I have to admit, with the sun shining and the relaxation that I was trying to take part in, this was definitely the kind of tune I wanted to be listening to. A bit of an odd name for an artist (I mean it doesn't really scream 'I'm awesome') but you know what they say about books and covers etc. So, without further ado for the second time today, I give you TOTD #6:

For anyone who was watching the Q music channel today (364 for those not in the know), you may have noticed that today's TOTD is inspired by a marathon featuring The Wombats vs. The Pigeon Detectives. Although there's plenty of classics to pick between the two, all of which faired better in the overall chart, this was one from The Wombats new album, 'This Modern Glitch'. It's only the second time I've heard it, but it reminded me of how good I thought it was the first time and I feel it needs some pushing. So without further ado, I give you today's TOTD:

I first heard this song on an episode of House about a year ago. I was already a big fan of the artist, but when I heard this song, I remember it really summed up my mood at the time and I fell in love with it. Today was quite a day, the sun was out and I caught up with an old friend who I haven't seen for a while. I was walking and talking in the sun and this one popped up in my head again. So, without further ado' (as seems to be my catch phrase on this section), here's the TOTD:

This one comes hand in hand with my latest TV obsession. Stemming from the bus trip to Lloret de Mar, I was finally introduced to the wonder that is Gavin & Stacey. Yes, I know, how have I taken so long to watch it, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, it's a cracking song by a very talented, young fellow by the name of Fretwell. Without further ado Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you your track of the day:

Decided it's only right to give this topic it's own page, partly because it didn't fit right in my normal blog, but mostly because I love music enough to cater properly for it. So although the first official TOTD was Arctic Monkeys' 'Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair', I can't post the same song twice; that would just be silly. So todays TOTD is a little number I heard sneaking around at the tail end of the tracklisting for Foo Fighters' new album, 'Wasting Light'. The 12th track (which features only on the Deluxe Editions of the album) is a refreshing collaboration with house DJ, deadmau5. So without further ado, here's todays TOTD:
